Fabric and construction

Buck Mason started in 2013 in a 350 square foot garage in Venice, California, making jeans and tees. In 2023 it bought a 150-year-old knitting mill in Pennsylvania and renamed it Buck Mason Knitting Mills. Its Pima and Slub tees are knit and sewn there.

Outside the tees and selvedge jeans, most Buck Mason product pages list the item as imported. Its FAQ says the brand mostly makes products in the USA. Product pages tell a more mixed story, so read the origin line on each one.

Taylor Stitch started in 2008 in San Francisco as a custom shirt company. It says more than 99 percent of its cotton products now use organic cotton. Check the current responsibility report for its factory relationships; the product’s origin label is the relevant country-of-manufacture reference. Product pages list China, India and Vietnam as origins.

Both brands mix in blends. Buck Mason’s California Oxford is cotton and Tencel. Some Taylor Stitch hemp shirts are hemp and Tencel. Check the composition before you buy.

Fit and sizing

Buck Mason says sizing varies by style and puts a size guide on every product page. Its stylists answer fit questions by email. Most tees and knits are cut in a classic fit.

Taylor Stitch sizes by chest: a medium is a 40 and a large is a 42. The Jack is cut close to the body with higher armholes. Customers rate most of its core pieces true to size, but if you like room, size up. The Buck Mason review covers Buck Mason fits in more detail.

Price and sales

Buck Mason does not routinely run promotions; its current FAQ says it offers no discounts or promotions. Its FAQ says it offers no discounts or promotions and that coupon codes found online are not honored. Markdowns show up only at third-party stores like Nordstrom and at the odd sample sale.

Taylor Stitch runs a Last Call section that is final sale. On September 29 it held 40 men’s items at 30 or 40 percent off. It also gives 20 percent off a first order for an email signup. It has run sitewide sales for holidays in past years, including 30 percent off for Cyber Monday 2022.

Taylor Stitch used to run Workshop, a crowdfunding program where buyers pre-ordered styles at about 20 percent off and waited two to three months. Check whether the brand currently offers Workshop before treating its historic pre-order terms as available.
